Government shutdown: What HR needs to know
If Congress can’t pass annual appropriations bills by Oct. 1, many federal government agencies will be forced to close or curtail operations for the 22nd time in U.S. history and the first time since 2019. By law, most federal agencies must furlough nonessential workers and stop or limit their activities until Congress passes and the president signs budget bills for fiscal year 2025.
