Would you hesitate to hire someone who has been unemployed for a year?

Fewer than 5% of those responding to an
HR Weekly poll say a lengthy period of unemployment would make them hesitate to hire an applicant. Half would want to know why a candidate wasn’t working, but plenty recognize that the recession and slow rebound have cost good people their jobs.
- 50% Maybe — I would want to know the circumstances
- 46% No — plenty of good workers are unemployed through no fault of their own
- 4% Yes, that would raise red flags.
